How English is used as one of the official languages of Hong Kong?

Hong Kong used to be one of the most significant Asian colonies of Britain before the 1st July 1997. However, even though Hong Kong has already been returned back to China, English impacts have still been existing until now.

Before 1947, English was the ONLY official language. Nowadays, according to the basic law of Hong Kong, Chinese and English are also the official languages of Hong Kong. It means that the government run a "two languages policy", all governmental documents and communications use both. They also need to ensure that both languages are fully taught to all citizens in HK.

The following examples show the using of English in both governmental and educational system.

Road signs and public warning signs are written in English first.

Governmental documents must be published as 2 versions.

This is a timetable of a class in a primary school. Pupils have English lessons every school days. It is noticeable that English education in Hong Kong is definitely more than other Asian countries around.

After being disgusted by the food I mentioned in last chapter, let's get into the most interesting part and see how you will be disgusted...

3th: Guai (Turtles)

I believe that most people in the world won't think that turtles are edible. On the other hand, Chinese people think in an other way. In Hong Kong, turtles are usually cooked as soup (see the above picture). In addition, they are not only eaten as savoury dishes, they are also made as a dessert, especially medicinal jelly (see the following picture)

2nd: Saa Tsung (Beach worms)

Actually, eating beach worms is not originally from Hong Kong, it is from Guangxi and Zhejiang in China Mainland. In the preceding 50 years, immigration from those places brought it to HK. The cooking of them doesn't have a main method, you can find dishes which stems, fries or boils them. The most horrible cooking is making it as jelly, which is called "Tou Seon Dung" (see following picture). In the process of making it, alive worms are heated directly. In order to protect themselves, they will secrete mucus. After cooling it, it becomes jelly.

1st: Animal sexual organs

The images above are cow's penis. As you know Chinese people believe that eating the organs of an animal is good for yours respectively. It is eaten by some men who are looking for a stronger penis or women who are looking for more protein.

The images above are Cow's vagina. It has more protein then other places of a cow because it is used to born a baby cow. That's why Chinese people believe that it's so healthy.

  

Above pictures are the testicles of a male cow (left) and chicken (right). It includes more protein then other places of them. HK people eat it as a dish of hot pot or a part dish of noodles.

After showing those horrible and disgusting dishes in Hong Kong, I guess many people will be scared to have dishes in Hong Kong. It is one of the reason that why I gave up eating meat. Some of those dishes are also made by cruel killing of animals. Finally, we can also realise how guilty Chinese people are.  

The 8 most horrible and disgusting food in Hong Kong

As you know that Chinese are called as "people who put everything into their mouth". Although Hong Kong is one of the most up-to-date city in the world, however, since over 90% of the population are Chinese, Hong Kong people are still influenced by this tradition. Some food and dishes which are considered as strange and unusual are still being eaten.

I'm going to introduce 8 of the most horrible and disgusting dishes in the following.

8th: Tsau Dau Fu (Sticky Tofu)

It is a piece of rotten tofu. That's why it is extremely smelly as a underground blocked sewer. More vitamins are included. It is normally fried as a street food.

7th: Pei Daan (Century Egg)

These are fermented duck eggs. Eggs solidify in the fermentation. It doesn’t have to be cooked
Pei Daan has less cholesterol and is easier to be digested.

6th: Fung Zaau (Chicken feet)

The feet of chicken are usual cooked as cold dishes. However, the picture above is an exception. It's a famous dish in traditional restaurants in HK. Interestingly, only the thin skin is edible.

5th: Zyu Hung (Pig's blood)

It is made by pig's blood. Just like black pudding in the UK. But it is definitely wetter and softer. It is commonly cooked as hot dishes which are with soup and a bit spicy.

4th: Organs of any animals

The whole body of animals is considered as edible, so HK people won't waste it. Moreover, they think eating the organ of an animal is also good for yours. The above picture is a photo of pig brain soup. How horrible!!!
